Background. In managing finances, people need to process various financial texts containing math (e.g., amount of money and mathematical concepts) information funds bonds). Such could trigger anxiety related finance; however, previous literature has rarely investigated the prediction role contextual on management behavior. Therefore, current study examined how are individuals’ behavior assessed by self-report objective observation, respectively. Methods. Working memory, math performance, and math anxiety.

The cognitive literature now shows how critically math performance depends on working memory, for any form of arithmetic and math that involves processes beyond simple memory retrieval. The psychometric literature is also very clear on the global consequences of mathematics anxiety. People who are highly math anxious avoid math: They avoid elective coursework in math, both in high school and co...

Intergenerational Effects of Parents' Math Anxiety on Children's Math Achievement and Anxiety.

A large field study of children in first and second grade explored how parents' anxiety about math relates to their children's math achievement. The goal of the study was to better understand why some students perform worse in math than others. We tested whether parents' math anxiety predicts their children's math achievement across the school year. We found that when parents are more math anxi...

Attentional bias in math anxiety

Cognitive theory from the field of general anxiety suggests that the tendency to display attentional bias toward negative information results in anxiety. Accordingly, the current study aims to investigate whether attentional bias is involved in math anxiety (MA) as well (i.e., a persistent negative reaction to math). Twenty seven participants (14 with high levels of MA and 13 with low levels of...

ERP measures of math anxiety: how math anxiety affects working memory and mental calculation tasks?

There have been several attempts to account for the impact of Mathematical Anxiety (MA) on brain activity with variable results. The present study examines the effects of MA on ERP amplitude during performance of simple arithmetic calculations and working memory tasks. Data were obtained from 32 university students as they solved four types of arithmetic problems (one- and two-digit addition an...

Mathematics anxiety: separating the math from the anxiety.

Anxiety about math is tied to low math grades and standardized test scores, yet not all math-anxious individuals perform equally poorly in math. We used functional magnetic resonance imaging to separate neural activity during the anticipation of doing math from activity during math performance itself. For higher (but not lower) math-anxious individuals, increased activity in frontoparietal regi...
